What is the best type of CV for your application?
There are a couple of CVs that you can utilise for your application.
A. Chronological CV
B. Functional CV
The Chronological CV is your best friend if you have no gaps in your employment and each job clearly outlines your progression in your career.
The Functional CV is for you to return to work after an extended absence, if you leave university and don’t yet have much practical work experience. If you have a mixed background of jobs in different industries.
What is the difference?
The first paragraph in both types of CV promotes your professional profile.
If the job requires that you are highly educated with 5 + years of experience in your field, your first sentence will be as follows
“Educated to (?) level, a professional (job title) with 5+ years experience in (industry)”.
The Chronological CV does what it says on the tin;
after your professional profile, you start to list your work experience beginning with the current position and moving backwards through your history.
The Functional CV takes three or four of the essential requirements from the job description and promotes your proficiency in each of them with a paragraph called “Core Skills” just below the “Professional Profile” section.
Your suitability is clearly outlined as soon as the reader opens the CV.
The chronological history can then be added below the Core Skills Paragraph.
Finally, if you have 15 + Years’ experience in industry, your initial jobs are no longer beneficial for your current application.
Put your early career in a small table at the end of the CV.
Record the roles, the organisations and the dates;
