Connections Part 3 - How to Enhance Connection at Work - for Employers


 


5 ways to connect with your employees and help them connect with each other!

  • Celebrate what is working well.

Take a leaf out of the science of positive psychology and celebrate what is good.  All too often we tend to focus on the negative.  If we focused on the positive and celebrated it on a weekly basis how would that look?  Start the Monday meeting with what's going well in the office at the moment? what's going well at home right now? and just sit back and see the results. 

  •  Get to know people.

Have a 'face to face', 'one to one' chat with your employees, see if you can find out what their aspirations are.  Just spending the time to chat with each employee for a few minutes, maybe once a month would do it. 

  • Be part of the onboarding.

Onboarding is generally done by an Office Manager or a HR Manager, this is another oppertuity to get to know your newbies.  Have an informal welcome chat with your new starters. Particularly if they are working remotely. 

  •  Celebrate big days 

Employees like the oppertunity to celebrate birthdays and love to receive Christmas cards.  This personal touch means so much to people and are the simplest of measures to ensure you get the culture you want in an office.

  • Growth Mindset Culture

Many people work in toxic offices where they are afraid to put their head above the parapit and engage with senior management.  This is a lost opportunity for the organisation and the employee, how can we expect to get the best out of our employees when we don't provide the environment for growth.
